David Moyes has expressed his excitement about returning to Everton as manager, more than 11 years after leaving the club for Manchester United.
The 61-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal following the dismissal of Sean Dyche on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Everton currently sit 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, with only three wins from 19 matches this season.
“I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club,” said Moyes.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Moyes first managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, before taking on roles at Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham, where he won the Europa Conference League in 2023.
David Moyes originally joined Everton in March 2002, taking over a team battling relegation. He won his first game in charge and managed over 500 matches during his tenure.
Under his leadership, Everton reached the FA Cup final in 2009 and consistently finished in the Premier League’s top eight, including a fourth-place finish in 2004-05 that earned them Champions League qualification.
He also nurtured talent like Wayne Rooney, who debuted under him, and signed players like Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini, who became club icons.
After leaving Everton, Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013 but was dismissed after 10 months with the team struggling in seventh place.
He then had a year in La Liga with Real Sociedad before returning to England to manage Sunderland, who were relegated in 2017.
Moyes later joined West Ham, first in 2017-18 to steer them clear of relegation and then again in December 2019.
During his second stint, he secured two top-seven finishes and led the team to win the Europa Conference League, their first major trophy in 43 years.
Although he was previously considered for a return to Everton in late 2019, the club opted for Carlo Ancelotti instead.
David Moyes remained at West Ham until the end of the 2023-24 season and was awarded an OBE in the 2025 New Year Honours.
KanyiDaily also reported that West Ham announced Graham Potter as their new Head Coach, following the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui, who spent just six months in charge.
