Last Monday, Trump began his second term with a series of executive orders aimed at revamping U.S. immigration policies.
His administration moved quickly to expand deportation efforts, loosening rules that previously limited enforcement in “sensitive” areas such as schools, churches, and workplaces.
In a nationwide sweep, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 956 people with many of them already deported.
In a now-deleted video on Instagram Stories, Selena, dressed in black and appearing to be at home, expressed her sadness and frustration over the situation.
Amidst tears, she said: “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
She included the words “I’m sorry” and a Mexican flag in her post.
While many fans praised Selena Gomez for showing compassion, some criticized her emotional response.
In response to the backlash, Selena shared another note on Instagram Stories, writing, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
However, like the video, this note was also later deleted.
Selena Gomez has been outspoken about immigration issues in the past, continuing to advocate for those affected.
KanyiDaily recalls that Selena Gomez recently got engaged to record producer and songwriter, Benny Blanco.
