Plane With 6 Aboard Crashes In Philadelphia, Setting Homes And Vehicles Ablaze

A small medical transport jet carrying six people crashed into multiple buildings in northeast Philadelphia on Friday night.

It was gathered that the Philadelphia plane crash sparked fires that engulfed homes and vehicles and injuring people on the ground.

The aircraft, a Learjet 55, was on a medical transport mission and had four crew members, a young patient, and the patient’s escort on board, according to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the medical aviation company operating the flight.

The plane had taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport around 6:30 p.m. local time and crashed less than four miles away, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported.

Initially, officials believed only two people were aboard, but later confirmed there were six. The jet was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.

Flight tracking data from FlightAware indicated that the plane was operated by Med Jets and had arrived in Philadelphia from Florida earlier that day.

Pennsylvania Governor, Josh Shapiro described the crash as a “horrific aviation disaster” and acknowledged that lives had likely been lost.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene, where burning debris littered the streets and bystanders watched in shock.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion, followed by an intense fireball that lit up the night sky. Some described the impact as feeling like an earthquake.

The child on board had been receiving treatment in the U.S. for a serious medical condition and was returning to Tijuana, Mexico, with their mother, Jet Rescue Air Ambulance spokesperson Shai Gold told NBC.

Gold said the child’s medical care had been funded by a charitable organization, adding that the flight also included a doctor, paramedic, and two pilots.

The Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia issued a notice offering assistance to any Mexican nationals affected by the crash.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said officials were still working to determine the number of fatalities.

She urged residents not to touch debris and to call emergency services if they came across wreckage.

The crash happened near Roosevelt Mall, a busy shopping center in a densely populated area of Philadelphia. The impact destroyed several vehicles and sent burning wreckage flying through the streets.

Eyewitness videos captured the jet’s rapid descent and the moment of impact, showing flames and thick smoke rising into the air.

A witness told CBS he had been driving nearby when he heard a strange noise, followed by a massive explosion.

Ryan Tian, a 23-year-old who was eating dinner in the area, described seeing a “huge fireball” that turned the sky orange.

“I thought we were getting attacked by something,” he said, adding that he quickly left the scene as people began to flee.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the crash.

The incident comes just days after a major collision between a commercial plane and a military helicopter in Washington, D.C., which claimed the lives of all 67 people on board both aircraft.
