Two female lawmakers, Marie Ebikake (PDP, Bayelsa) and Blessing Amadi (PDP, Rivers), got into a heated argument about whether President Bola Tinubu had the constitutional authority to impose emergency rule in the state.

It was gathered that their shouting match erupted before the plenary session began on Wednesday. Other lawmakers had to step in to calm the situation before it escalated further.

President Tinubu declared the emergency on Tuesday, citing the prolonged political crisis in Rivers. He also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire state assembly for six months.

To oversee the state during this period, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, as administrator.
