The Oyo State Government has dismissed rumors circulating in the media about the death of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

On Monday night, several news platforms claimed that the respected monarch had passed away at 89.
However, the Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, denied the reports, assuring the public that the Olubadan is alive and well.
“Yes, Olubadan is alive, hale, and hearty. I spoke with one of his sons, Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, who represented the family at the coronation committee,” Olatunbosun stated.
Echoing this reassurance, the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, also dismissed the rumors, stressing that when he left the palace around 8 p.m., there was no sign of any crisis.
“By the time I left the palace around 8 p.m., everything was normal. There was no crisis. When I later contacted the palace, I was told Baba is hale and healthy,” he added.
Addressing further speculation, Ayoade refuted claims that the monarch had been taken out of Ibadan for medical treatment.
“Baba is still in Ibadan. He was not flown anywhere. He is doing very fine,” he clarified.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who was officially presented with his staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, is preparing to celebrate his 90th birthday on July 5.
