Rivers Sole Administrator Approves March Salary For Civil Servants, Suspended Appointees

Rivers State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has approved the disbursement of March salaries for civil servants, public sector workers, pensioners, and suspended political appointees.

The directive was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, who confirmed that the Accountant-General has been instructed to process the payments without delay.

This decision follows mounting pressure from labor unions, particularly the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which recently threatened to launch a statewide strike over unpaid wages.

The NLC had warned that further delays could lead to a complete shutdown of government operations.b

With this announcement, the Rivers State Government aims to ease tensions and address concerns regarding salary payments.

The statement reads: “APPROVAL FOR PAYMENT OF SALARIES FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH, 2025

“In keeping with the undertaking made to the good people of Rivers State, I am pleased to inform you that the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (RTD) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, has approved the payment of salaries for all civil servants in the Rivers State Civil Service and all public servants of the Rivers State Government, including Pensioners, and all suspended political appointees, for the month of March, 2025.

“The Administrator has further directed the Accountant-General to ensure that payment for salaries in March 2025 is remitted, without any delay.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Organised Labour had condemned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers,.warning that it may resort to drastic action that could disrupt the country’s economy if the decision is not reversed soon.
