Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, has sadly passed away.
Shimite Winifred Bello’s death has been linked to alleged domestic violence, although full details are still unclear.
Human rights activist and fellow government aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed the tragic news in a Facebook post on Monday, April 21, 2025.
Another activist, Comrade Victor Ojie, also known as Wong Box, shared a message online warning about the dangers of staying in toxic relationships, saying, “Marriage is not by force oh. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life oh.”
According to a post by Hon. Oge Okonkwo, Shimite’s husband has been arrested in connection with her death.
Her personal aide, Tameta Sunday, also claimed her husband was responsible, sharing an emotional tribute expressing disbelief over her untimely death.
“It’s very difficult to type RIP boss, knowing fully well an ugly soul called pastor with a gentle look as a husband cut all the positive plans we had together,” his post partly reads.
Shimite Bello was known for her strong contributions to trade, culture, and women empowerment.
She was the coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and played a major role in the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in the state.
She also created and hosted “African Pot”, a television show that celebrated African food, tourism, and cultural heritage.
In addition, she served on the steering committee of USAID’s NEXTT programme for trade and transport and was a board member of FESECA, a foundation focused on economic development in Africa.
Shimitte Winifred Bello also contributed to travel and tourism publications like “Daily Trust” and “Leadership”.
Following her passing, there has been a wave of reactions online, with many people urging women in abusive marriages to seek help or leave before it’s too late.
