The Federal Government has announced that Thursday will be a public holiday in celebration of Workers’ Day, which takes place every year on May 1.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
He praised Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication, saying their contributions help both the country’s development and international reputation.
He emphasized the importance of peace for boosting the economy and called on workers to embrace innovation and productivity.
Tunji-Ojo reassured the public that the government remains committed to protecting everyone in the country, including foreigners.
He also wished workers a joyful celebration and encouraged them to stay hopeful, saying President Bola Tinubu’s government is serious about fulfilling its Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister said, “There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building.
“This administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.
“While wishing workers a happy celebration, the Honourable Minister urged Nigerians to keep hope alive as the present administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda he has promised.”
Tunji-Ojo further urged workers to improve their skills and work standards, explaining that this would strengthen public service and help citizens benefit more from the country’s wealth.
KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu recently approved an increase in the retirement age for doctors and other healthcare professionals in Nigeria, raising it from 60 to 65 years.
