The procession started on Wednesday from Casa Santa Marta—the simple residence where Pope Francis lived and passed away.
As the bells of St. Peter’s rang, pallbearers lifted the open wooden coffin and moved slowly through the square.
Eight Swiss Guards, holding ceremonial staffs, walked alongside the coffin as it made its way through St. Peter’s Square, which was packed with tens of thousands of mourners.
The solemn procession included priests dressed in traditional robes, some carrying candles, followed by groups of nuns walking quietly behind.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday and is expected to bring together a massive crowd along with world leaders from various countries.
KanyiDaily recalls that Pope Francis died on Monday at the age of 88 after suffering a stroke, slipping into a coma, and experiencing heart failure.
