Sergio Conceicao has been dismissed as head coach of AC Milan just six months after taking the job.
The 50-year-old Portuguese manager took over in December following the departure of Paulo Fonseca and signed an 18-month contract.
He made an immediate impact by leading Milan to an Italian Super Cup win just a week into the role. However, things quickly went downhill.
Despite the early success, Milan’s season didn’t go as planned. They lost the Coppa Italia final to Bologna, and their league performance remained poor.
Under Conceicao, the team ended the season in eighth place, missing out on European qualification for next year.
Meanwhile, the club’s rivals Inter Milan are set to face PSG in the Champions League final this weekend.
In a statement, the Serie A giants confirmed the development, saying, “AC Milan and Sergio Conceiçao will not continue their journey together next season.
“The Club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication shown during their time leading the First Team over the past few months.
“The AC Milan family parts with the coach who won the 50th trophy in the Club’s history, wishing him the best for the future.”
Reports from Italy suggest that Massimiliano Allegri is likely to return as Milan’s next head coach.
Allegri, 57, previously managed Milan from 2010 to 2014, leading them to a Serie A title in the 2010–11 season.
He later won five league titles with Juventus. He’s been without a job since leaving Juve at the end of the 2023–24 campaign.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported earlier today that Allegri has already agreed to make a return to San Siro.
KanyiDaily also reported that Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is one of the key players AC Milan is planning to part ways with as the club prepares for a major shake-up ahead of the 2025–26 season.
