A construction worker has been confirmed dead after a building under construction collapsed in the Idi Araba area of Mushin, Lagos State.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday when the one-storey building suddenly collapsed.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed in a statement that one person had died while three others were rescued alive from the debris.
“So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued alive. Search and rescue operations are ongoing continue,” he said.
Shakiru Amodu, spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, also confirmed the fatality, stating that one adult male was recovered dead from the rubble.
“Unfortunately, one adult male has been recovered dead,” he told newsmen.
The agency’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, explained that the building was still under construction when it collapsed.
According to her, the three injured survivors were adult men who were pulled from the debris and received immediate medical attention before being taken to the hospital.
The statement read, “A building under construction at the one-storey level suddenly collapsed at 96 Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque, Mushin, Lagos. The distress call was received at approximately 3:30 pm.
“Responding agencies included the Isolo Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police.
“Three adult males have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injury. They were attended to at the scene before being transferred to the hospital for further treatment by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.”
