According to a statement released on Friday, May 2, by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the victim was allegedly attacked by individuals known to his son.
The attackers, identified as Ahmad Abdulkadir (also called Abba) and Faruk Malami (nicknamed Ajebo), reportedly broke into Wabi’s home around 3 a.m. on Thursday, May 1.
They assaulted him using a knife and a hammer, inflicting multiple stab wounds to his neck.
Wabi, aged 66, was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, but sadly, he didn’t survive his injuries.
One of the suspects, Faruk Malami, was found unconscious at the scene—believed to be a result of a retaliatory attack by someone reacting to the incident.
He was also taken to the hospital but was later confirmed dead.
Wabi’s son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed, has been taken into custody and is reportedly cooperating with the police investigation.
The statement reads, “On the early morning of 2nd May 2025, at about 0403 hours, the police command received a distress call from a Good Samaritan concerning an incident involving an attack by a group of youths at Fadaman Mada, located behind government girls secondary school Bauchi.
“In response, a dedicated team of officers was dispatched to the scene. They found Mr Isa Muhammad Wabi, a 66-year-old former Chairman of Jama’are LGA, in critical condition due to injuries sustained in the attack. He was promptly evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi for urgent medical attention.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances of his son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed, aged 24. The investigation suggests that Ahmad Abdulkadir, also known as Abba, and Faruk Malami, referred to as Ajebo, had entered the home around 0300 hours and subsequently conspired to assault Mr. Wabi. He sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck.
“In a related development, one of the suspects, Ajebo, was found unconscious at the scene, likely due to retaliatory action from an enraged individual. He was also taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced d3ad. Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed has been taken into custody for questioning and has cooperated, providing valuable information to the authorities.
“The command is conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances of this unfortunate incident and ensure that all responsible parties are brought to justice.
“The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu psc (+), mni, visited the deceased house, extended condolences to the families affected by this tragic event, and assured them that the investigation will diligently pursue those responsible for this grievous act.”
