A High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced gospel musician Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the brutal murder of a corps member, Salome Adaidu.

KanyiDaily recalls that in January, Oluwatimileyin Ajayi was arrested after church members caught him carrying a nylon bag that contained Salome Adaidu’s severed head.
The shocking discovery led police to search his apartment in New Karshi, Karu LGA, where they found the rest of her remains.
In an interview after his arrest, Ajayi admitted to killing, claiming it wasn’t preplanned but driven by a moment of intense jealousy.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time. It’s not something I planned. It happened on that day, and it happened. Not that I had the plan in mind, she was cheating.
“She hides most of the things from me most time. I got to know from her phone. I saw her chats with other guys on the phone, that was why I decided,” he said.
During the court proceedings on Thursday, June 26, Justice Simon Aboki ruled that Ajayi was guilty of culpable homicide.
The judge rejected the convict’s claim that he was unconscious when he wrote his confessional statement, noting that the evidence against him was overwhelming and consistent.
Justice Aboki stated that the prosecution had convincingly proved that Ajayi killed and dismembered the victim.
He, therefore, noted that Ajayi was convicted under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which prescribes the death penalty for persons guilty of such an offence.
“The law is clear on this, and the punishment is death. Therefore, the accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging,” Justice Aboki ruled.
KanyiDaily recalls that Timilehin Ajayi was recently seen praying in court while being arraigned for killing Salome Adaidu.
