Governor Umo Eno Responds To Daughter’s Allegation Of ‘Sacrificing’ Wife For Rituals

Akwa Ibom state Governor Umo Eno has responded to a viral video making the rounds online, in which his daughter appears to accuse him of being involved in the death of his wife, Patience Umo Eno.

In the video, the governor’s daughter, Jane Ufot emotionally suggested that her late mother was “sacrificed,” saying: “Daddy please. Let us talk before this thing destroys. I’m not a sacrifice, mummy was, but I’m not,” Ufot said in the viral clip.”

Jane Ufot was also seen telling her own daughter to repeat a disturbing statement that hinted at fear of death and past family losses: “Grandpa, do you want them to kill us? Do you want them to die like my brother and baby brother died?

“If I die today or my daughter dies… if we die because God is exposing the truth, so be it. But my blood will not go scot free.”

Reacting to the video on Saturday, Governor Eno said the clip was recorded shortly after his wife passed away in 2024, during a difficult and emotional time for the family.

The governor suggested that Jane’s comments were likely the result of grief and trauma following the loss.

He questioned the timing of the video resurfacing online, noting that it’s trending just as his administration is marking its second year in office.

Speaking to journalists after arriving at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo for the 60th birthday celebration of former deputy governor Obong Nsima Ekere, Eno said:

“We are in political times, so you expect more of that. My family is intact and the event they were talking about happened immediately after my wife passed away last year.

“Why is it surfacing now and on the eve of the second year anniversary that we are celebrating the milestones that we have achieved? This means there are detractors around.”

Eno added that losing a parent can put serious emotional pressure on children and urged the public not to allow the video to reopen painful memories.

He also appealed for respect for his late wife’s memory, saying: “My family is intact. The pressure kids go through when they lose a loved one could be traumatic and all I can appeal to the public is that they shouldn’t bring back sad memories.

“It is enough that I have lost my wife and I pray they allow her peaceful soul to rest. I can’t be distracted. I remain focused and continue to serve Akwa Ibom people.”

Governor Eno also took a moment to congratulate Nsima Ekere on his 60th birthday, wishing him a long life, good health, and continued strength to support the development of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.

KanyiDaily recalls that the late Akwa Ibom first lady, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, was laid to rest on Friday, as condolences poured in for Governor Umo Eno and the people of the state.
