Ireland Government has deported 35 Nigerians for breaching immigration laws, including five children and nine women.
A statement by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), which led the operation, said that the children were all part of family groups.
“All individuals were removed on a chartered flight which left Dublin Airport last night, Wednesday, June 4, 2025, for Nigeria,” the statement said in part.
This deportation marks Ireland’s first chartered removal flight to Africa in 2025, although it’s the third such deportation flight since the country began using chartered services in February.
Ireland’s Justice Minister, Jim O’Callaghan, defended the move, stating that a strong and fair immigration system depends on following set rules.
He emphasized that individuals whose asylum or immigration applications have been denied must leave the country once a deportation order is issued.
The minister also disclosed that the flight had to make an unplanned stop because of a medical issue on board.
However, the matter was resolved, and all 35 individuals safely completed their journey to Nigeria.
KanyiDaily also reported that a 16-year-old Nigerian boy, Emmanuel Familola, died after drowning while swimming in a river near the Buncrana community in Ireland.
