Abducted Edo Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Moritada Obhakhoboh Regains Freedom

Edo State Police Command has confirmed that the Chief Imam of Uromi, Sheikh Moritada Obhakhoboh, has been safely released from his kidnappers.

A statement from police spokesperson Moses Yamu on Monday night, said the cleric regained his freedom after police applied “intense and sustained pressure” on the kidnappers.

Yamu said Sheikh Obhakhoboh, who was abducted on July 7 in the Angle 80 area of Uromi, was released without harm and is now back home with his family.

The police said they launched a full-scale operation as soon as the incident was reported to the Uromi Divisional Headquarters on July 8.

Yamu noted that fficers, along with local vigilante groups, were immediately sent out to track down the kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the officers for their efforts and assured the public that investigations are still underway to identify and arrest those behind the crime.

No stone will be left unturned in identifying and apprehending those behind the kidnapping,” he said.

He also called on residents to stay alert and keep sharing useful information that could help the police tackle crime in the state.

KanyiDaily also reported how bandits killed a popular Katsina Islamic scholar, Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Unguwar Mai Kawo.
