Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu of the Nasarawa State High Court delivered the Judgement on the incident which happened five years ago.
Yaro, from Adogi Village in Lafia, was arrested in May 2020 by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after he sexually assaulted the infant, leaving her badly injured.
The baby was first taken to Dalhatu Arab Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia but was later transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for advanced treatment.
After a five-year trial, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu described Yaro’s actions as “barbaric, demonic, and a direct attack on the moral conscience of society.”
The judge sentenced him to 21 years in prison with hard labor, stating that the punishment would bring justice to the victim and serve as a warning to others.
