Nursing Mother Arrested For Allegedly Killing Her Two Children In Enugu

A woman identified as Chidinma Arinze has been accused of killing her two young children at her home on Unity Road in the Trans Ekulu area of Enugu State.

It was gathered that the woman killed her four-year-old daughter and her three-month-old son on Monday, July 21, before neighbours discovered the children’s lifeless bodies and alerted the police.

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the act was committed inside their home and described by authorities as one of the most disturbing cases they’ve handled in recent times.

Police sources said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Trans Ekulu received a distress call around 9:00 a.m. and quickly sent officers to the scene.

When they arrived, they found the bodies of Esther and Chibusoma Arinze. Both children reportedly had visible injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp object.

The area was sealed off, and forensic photos were taken before the suspect, who is also the children’s mother, was arrested without resistance.

The bodies were moved to Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT) where doctors confirmed both children were dead. Their remains have been placed in the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

While the motive behind the act is still unclear, some residents believe the woman may have been suffering from a mental health crisis, possibly linked to postpartum depression, though this has not been officially confirmed.

“This is not something we’ve seen before in our area,” one neighbour said. “She was quiet, kept to herself. No one suspected she was struggling with anything.”

Police are continuing their investigation and plan to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more detailed review.

Police said they’re looking into all possibilities, including a psychological evaluation of the suspect.

“We understand the emotional weight of this case,” a senior police official said. “Investigators are looking at every angle, including psychological evaluation of the suspect.”

The Trans Ekulu community has been left in shock, grieving the loss of two innocent children and trying to come to terms with a tragedy that happened so close to home.

“We are devastated,” said a neighbour. “Two innocent lives gone, and a mother behind bars. No one wins in this situation.”

KanyiDaily also reported how Enugu State Police Command arrested two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, for allegedly plotting the kidnap of their own brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu.
