Osun Election: Violence Forces Voters And INEC Officials To Flee Polling Unit In Ejigbo LGA

Voting was interrupted in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday after violence broke out at a polling area during the ongoing governorship election

It was gathered that the trouble started after a young man discovered materials allegedly connected to vote buying and believed to be linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The youth and others reportedly took possession of the materials, saying they could not ignore what they considered an illegal act.

Tension increased when people allegedly connected to the materials arrived at the location and reportedly tried to take the youth away.

The confrontation caused panic among those at the polling area.

Voters, residents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reportedly ran away to avoid being caught up in the violence.

Footage from the area showed people fleeing in different directions as motorcycles and vehicles moved through the area during the confusion.

As of the time of filing the report, there was no confirmed information on whether anyone was injured.

The incident followed earlier complaints from some voters in Ejigbo over alleged vote buying.

The voters said they reported the matter to security personnel but claimed the officers did not immediately take action.

The allegations reportedly created tension among voters as the election continued.

Meanwhile, another dispute was recorded at a separate polling unit in Ejigbo over the number of ballot papers supplied to the station.

A party agent questioned election officials about the quantity of ballot papers delivered, saying the number counted did not match the figure officials had given.

You told us you brought 584 ballot papers, but after counting, it was not up to 584. How come?” the agent asked.

Some residents then asked election officials to conduct another count, saying the process needed to be transparent and properly accounted for.
