Tinubu landed at the presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where he was welcomed by several top government officials on Saturday night.
Among those who received him were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and former Sokoto State governor, Aliyu Wamakko.
His return was confirmed in the early hours of Sunday by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who shared the news on X (formerly Twitter).
Onanuga wrote, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Abuja Saturday night from his trips to Saint Lucia and Brazil.
“He was welcomed at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja by the Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, Alh Abubakar Atiku, Alh Ibrahim Masari, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Minister for Defence, Muhammed Bello Matawalle, and NSA Nuhu Ribadu.”
Tinubu had left Nigeria on June 28 to begin a diplomatic tour, starting with St. Lucia. The trip was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s relationship with Caribbean countries.
“First, from the perspective of the Government of Saint Lucia, the visit by the Nigerian leader paves the way for the rekindling of our ancestral bonds, igniting a new era of diplomatic, cultural, and economic possibilities between our nations,” Onanuga added.
While in St. Lucia, Tinubu spoke to a joint session of their parliament and was honoured with the country’s highest national award, the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL).
Following his stop in St. Lucia, the president travelled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he attended the BRICS Summit alongside other global leaders.
At the summit, the Nigerian president pushed for greater support and inclusion for low-income countries.
KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu approved a scholarship program that will allow students from the Caribbean to study in Nigeria, starting from the next academic session.
