The attack happened Saturday evening at an immigration outpost located along the Babanna-Wawa road in Lumma Sanke, Borgu Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the attackers arrived in large numbers and stormed the location, killing Suleiman and burning his body along with his service rifle.
According to Daily Trust, the assailants also targeted a nearby police border checkpoint at Luma Ba’are, which was manned by mobile police officers.
While the full scale of casualties from that second attack is unclear, several patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and personal vehicles belonging to officers were reportedly set on fire.
The attacks, which occurred almost at the same time, caused widespread panic among local residents.
Another immigration officer, identified as Ahmed, has been declared missing after the attack, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.
A source within the immigration service confirmed the incident, stating: “The outpost is called Luma Immigration Service Patrol Outpost and is located on Babanna-Wawa road.
“When the terrorists carried out the attack, Officer Suleiman was killed, and his body was set ablaze. Another personnel, Ahmed, has not been seen, and there is no information about him yet.”
Another source expressed frustration over the continued violence in the area, saying: “The attacks were carried out at the Nigeria Immigration Outpost, Luma-Sanke, and the Mopol Checkpoint at Luma-Ba’are, Borgu, Niger State. This is becoming unbearable. Terrorists are having a field day in the area.”
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident would be thoroughly investigated, though no official statement had been released at the time of filing this report.
