The palace grounds of The Olu of Warri came alive in a carnival of color, music, and nostalgia as legends of Nigeria’s golden Atlanta ‘96 Olympic football squad reunited to dazzle in a novelty match. The star-studded game headlined the second day of festivities marking the fourth coronation anniversary of His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, The Olu of Warri.

Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Ikpeba, and Taribo West, icons forever etched in Nigeria’s sporting history, took to the pitch, rekindling memories of their historic Olympic triumph. They were joined by spirited Warri chiefs and the kingdom’s vibrant youth, blending royalty, tradition, and sporting excellence in a spectacle that captivated the crowd.
The atmosphere was electric as drums throbbed, trumpets blared, and bursts of traditional dance painted the sidelines with joy. Every flick, pass, and goal from the legends drew roars of delight, while fans draped in Itsekiri colors waved flags and sang in unison, turning the palace arena into a festival of unity and pride.
Far beyond football, the match embodied the Olu’s reign, a seamless fusion of heritage and modernity.
