Police Condemns Assault On NYSC Member Who Was Stripped By Anambra Vigilante

Anambra State Police Command has condemned the assault of Jennifer Elobor, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), by local security operatives, describing the act as unacceptable and promising to ensure justice is served.

The incident, which occurred in Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area, involved members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi (popularly called the Agunechemba Vigilante Group).

In the video, the operatives stormed the corps lodge, accused Elobor and her colleagues of internet fraud, and despite her showing her NYSC ID card, they beat her up, tore her clothes, and stripped her naked.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga described the viral video of the attack as disturbing.

“The video is very wrong, what they did to that lady is very, very wrong,” Ikenga said, assuring that the police remain committed to protecting residents and holding the perpetrators accountable.

Ikenga explained that the victim personally reached out to him after feeling dissatisfied with how her complaint was initially handled at the vigilante office.

The point I want to draw here is that the process she went through in Agunechemba in getting justice, I think from her own point, she was not satisfied, that was why she stepped up the complaint to me,” he said.

He added that although Jennifer Elobor was invited to his office, she explained she was receiving medical treatment and would come forward when able.

“We, the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command, are ready to make sure that we enforce [justice] whenever she comes around,” Ikenga added.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Government confirmed that the vigilante operatives involved have already been arrested.

Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, had revealed that those responsible were immediately taken into custody.

“Immediately the incident happened, we arrested the operatives involved and placed them in detention,” Emeakayi said on the show.
