The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to police sources.
Authorities said Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in a car that officers pulled over.
During the stop, police claim they spotted a firearm inside the vehicle.
He was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun.
Police haven’t revealed why the vehicle was stopped or given details about the weapon.
It’s also not clear if anyone else in the car was arrested or questioned.
Earlier that night, the rapper was seen greeting fans outside his store on Melrose Avenue during the TMZ Celebrity Tour.
Soulja Boy also shared videos from his birthday party at Poppy nightclub in L.A.
NBC’s Los Angeles station was the first to break the news. Soulja Boy’s team hasn’t released a statement yet, despite requests for comment.
