Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci now awaits recognition from the Guinness World Records after completing the challenge of cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

KanyiDaily recalls that Hilda Baci first made headlines in 2023 when she cooked non-stop for 93 hours, setting a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.
This time, the chef worked with a specially designed pot measuring six metres across, aiming to cook 250 bags of rice in a container that can hold more than 22,000 litres.
The event took place on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos and quickly turned into a major spectacle.
By early morning, crowds of fans, food enthusiasts, friends and celebrities and media crews had gathered.
Although cooking did not begin until later in the afternoon, the lively atmosphere was already buzzing with music, dancing, and excitement.
More than 20,000 people reportedly registered to attent which resembled a food festival, with vendors selling snacks, meals, and drinks from across Nigeria’s diverse cultures.
Influencers and content creators recorded the energy of the day, while security teams and medical staff ensured order and safety.
The occasion also drew a number of well-known figures like Nollywood actress Funke Akindele who joined Hilda Baci on stage, praising her determination and even helping stir the tomato base of the rice.
The First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, also was present to show support. Other celebrities spotted included dancer Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Veekee James, Alex Unusual, Spyro, and many others.
Guinness World Records acknowledged the attempt in real time by reposting a video of the event on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:
“What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”
The Nigerian government also joined in celebrating the milestone.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, sent a message of encouragement on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking through Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, the Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, Idris described Baci’s effort as proof of Nigeria’s global excellence.
“The Federal Government lauds Hilda Baci’s extraordinary effort in putting Nigeria once again on the global map.
“Her dedication to excellence and her unrelenting pursuit of greatness exemplify the Nigerian spirit that the world has come to appreciate,” he said.
Idris further pledged the Federal Government’s support for the initiative and similar projects that promote Nigerian excellence abroad.
“We recognise and celebrate Nigerians like Hilda Baci who serve as ambassadors of our nation’s capabilities, talents, culture, and food,” he said.
He commended her discipline, preparation, and attention to hygiene, noting that her professionalism reflects the values that showcase Nigeria on the world stage.
The minister further encouraged young Nigerians to see Baci as an example, urging them to direct their creativity and hard work into projects that can contribute both to personal success and to national pride.
“We encourage more young Nigerians to channel their creativity and talents into ventures that will not only benefit them personally but also contribute to national development and global recognition,” he added.
Jollof rice, one of West Africa’s most beloved dishes, remains a cultural symbol and a source of friendly rivalry, especially between Nigeria and Ghana.
Hilda Baci’s attempt to set this new record reinforces Nigeria’s pride in its food, culture, and talent.

Truth is, Hilda Baci achieving the evenly dry state for that jollof rice is my biggest wonder. I have never achieved it even in my kitchen.
