Natasha Akpoti Set For Resumption At Senate After Six-Month Suspension

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is expected to return to the Senate September after serving a six-month suspension.

Natasha’s lawyer, Victor Giwa, told The PUNCH in Abuja that the lawmaker, who is currently in London on vacation, has already made arrangements to resume her legislative duties once the Senate reconvenes on September 23.

Actually, she’s ready to resume her term. She’s in London. Everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption,” Giwa said.

He added that there were no signs of resistance from Senate leadership, assuring that she would be welcomed back without any obstacles.

We have been told that even the leadership of the Senate is ready to welcome her. So that’s the situation at the moment. There is no obstacle at all,” he assured.

Natasha Akpoti was suspended on March 6 after refusing to comply with a directive to change her designated seat, a move the Senate described as insubordination.

Following recommendations from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, she was also stripped of her office benefits, aides, and salaries.

The senator has repeatedly argued that her suspension was politically motivated and linked to her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, allegations the Senate dismissed.

She later secured a favorable court judgment challenging the suspension, but the Senate leadership insisted she would remain barred until the full six months had passed.

In July, an attempt to force her way back into the National Assembly ended in a standoff after security operatives blocked her entry, despite a crowd of supporters rallying outside.

Now that the suspension has officially lapsed, her lawyer insists that any ongoing legal matters will not stop her return.

Everything will be resolved. Even the court cases will become like an academic exercise,” Giwa noted.

Efforts to reach Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu and Akpabio’s media aide for comment were unsuccessful, as neither responded to calls or messages.

KanyiDaily recalls that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan recently shared a loved-up video with her husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan.
