The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two men who returned from Brazil after they were found to have excreted a total of 116 wraps of heroin and cocaine while in custody.

In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi identified the suspects as Ofoma Sunday and Ukachukwu Ikechukwu, both of whom were intercepted at the Lagos airport and placed under observation until the drugs were recovered.

According to him, Ofoma, 46, was arrested on September 16 after arriving from Brazil, and a body scan confirmed he had ingested illegal substances.

“Ofoma had left Nigeria for Brazil on 3rd September to courier the consignment to Lagos for a reward of $2,500 upon successful delivery,” the statement reads.

A follow-up operation led NDLEA officers to Eliata Hotel in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, where Ofoma was meant to meet with one Nweke Chukwudi, 55, who was tasked with collecting the drugs after excretion.

Babafemi said Chukwudi was arrested, while Ofoma excreted 111 wraps of heroin weighing 1.452 kilograms.

In a separate operation, Ikechukwu was arrested on September 19 during passenger clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Brazil via Addis Ababa.

The NDLEA spokesperson said a scan also confirmed drug ingestion. While under observation, he excreted five wraps of cocaine weighing 145 grams.

Babafemi explained that Ikechukwu admitted to buying nine wraps of cocaine in Brazil, which he inserted into his anus — a process that took him nearly two hours.

“During his transit through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he said he began to experience severe anal pain and decided to remove the wraps from his body,” Babafemi said.

Babafemi said Ikechukwu admitted that he could only reinsert seven wraps and flushed the remaining two down a toilet to catch his connecting flight to Nigeria.

“The suspect revealed that while on board his flight to Nigeria, he felt pressured and uncomfortable, which compelled him to use the lavatory. During the process, he expelled an additional two wraps, leaving him with only five wraps in his anus,” he said.

The NDLEA spokesperson added that Ikechukwu disclosed his past, saying he once traded in clothing before moving to Brazil in 2017 and later relocating to the United States in 2020.

He was eventually deported back to Nigeria in 2022 after an immigration offence but returned to Brazil in March 2025, where he obtained residency and continued living before his latest arrest.

KanyiDaily recalls that the NDLEA recently uncovered several large drug smuggling attempts across the country, with traffickers using unusual methods to hide illegal substances.
