Former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi said that no account of Nigeria’s history would be complete without recognizing Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Peter Obi made the remark on Sunday, September 14, when he visited Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.
He described Ibadan as a city that has played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s political, social, and economic journey.
The former Anambra State governor was accompanied on the visit by Labour Party leaders as well as prominent members of the Igbo community.
He praised the contributions of Ibadan natives, both within the country and in the diaspora, saying their efforts have significantly advanced Nigeria’s growth.
Obi also highlighted the role of Rashidi Ladoja, noting his past experience as both a governor and senator, stressing that such experiences would be valuable to the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“The position of Ibadan in the history of Nigeria cannot be ignored as a home to all because of the hospitable nature of the indigenes,” he said.
“Also, the ancient city is blessed with the likes of Ladoja, who has seen it all as former governor and senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“It is expected that his wealth of experience will be brought to bear in his new royal assignment as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“Oba Ladoja will enjoy the support of all and sundry across the country in his new assignment. On my part, I will render necessary assistance to make the reign of Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan successful.”
In his response, Rashidi Ladoja expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity, describing his ascension as another call to serve.
“That I am alive today is a further confirmation of the grace of God upon my life,” he said.
He emphasized that the Olubadan throne is not about prestige but about service to the people.
“It is God who enthroned Olubadan, not because you have money or influential people around you. That is why I will keep on offering thanks to Him.
“The time of glamour is gone; it is about service and what you have on the table for the people in society,” Ladoja said.
KanyiDaily recalls that Olubadan-in-Council recently nominated Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
