Natasha Akpoti, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended in March after a clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
After her suspension, she went to the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the decision, but the court sided with the Senate.
The lawmaker has since taken the case to the Court of Appeal, where it is still pending.
Natasha, who is currently in London on vacation, has already made arrangements to resume her legislative duties once the Senate reconvenes on September 23.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate acknowledged receiving her notice to resume duties, which she claimed coincided with the end of her suspension period.
However, the letter explained that the suspension began on March 6, and remains in place because the matter is still before the courts.
The letter partly reads: “The matter, therefore, remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption.”
The Senate further assured her that she would be informed once the courts deliver a ruling.
