Witnesses said the suspect had tried to dispossess a commercial rider of his motorcycle when the rider raised an alarm.
Residents in the area quickly responded, chased down the suspect, and caught him.
The angry mob assaulted the man before eventually burning him alive.
As of filing this report, security authorities in Benue State had yet to release any official statement on the killing.
