In a viral video, the singer explained that she avoids giving out money on Fridays because many people end up spending it on pepper soup instead of using it wisely.
Speaking in Pidgin English, Teni said, “I Me I no dey give anybody money on Friday. No no no, if you give person money on Friday, them go use your money go chop pepper soup ooh.”
The music star went on to share a personal story about someone she once helped financially.
According to her, the person had claimed he needed the money to start a business, but instead, spent it on a large bowl of catfish pepper soup.
Teni added that it’s better to give people money at the beginning of the week, like on a Monday, when they’re more focused on their plans and responsibilities.
Her remarks quickly spread across social media, drawing varied reactions from fans—some agreed with her reasoning, while others found her explanation amusing.
KanyiDaily recalls that Teni Apata previously responded to an Uber driver who criticized her for not giving him tips after she donated money to a woman known as Mummy Zee.
