Fred Chukwuelobe, media aide to Chris Ngige, has clarified that the former Anambra State governor is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chris Ngige Was Not Kidnapped, He's Detained In EFCC Custody - Aide

Late Monday, reports circulated claiming that Chris Ngige had been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Chukwuelobe said he received numerous calls from friends and journalists asking about the alleged abduction.

“I have been receiving calls in the past hour from friends and journalists seeking the veracity of the news making the rounds that His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra state and immediate past minister of labour and employment, ‘has been kidnapped,””.

“Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not ‘abducted’ or ‘kidnapped’,” he wrote on Facebook.

He added that more information would be shared soon.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale did not respond to calls or messages seeking confirmation.

The clarification comes after an attack on Ngige’s convoy on November 27 along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North LGA, Anambra State.

Gunmen disguised in police and army uniforms fired at the convoy’s escorts, killing a woman who was recording the scene and injuring a police officer and other civilians.

Ngige, however, was not in the convoy at the time.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) previously questioned Chris Ngige over his involvement in alleged contracts and job racketeering during his tenure.
