The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it will prosecute popular TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, over alleged dangerous driving.

The move comes after a video circulated online showing Peller driving while live streaming before he crashed his car.

According to the FRSC, the act distracted the driver and led to a traffic accident.

The development was made known in a statement released on Monday by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

In the statement, the Corps Marshal expressed worry over a rising habit among celebrities and social media influencers who break traffic rules in the name of creating online content.

He said such behaviour puts lives at risk and undermines road safety efforts.

He explained that using a phone, recording videos or live streaming while driving is against traffic regulations and can easily lead to serious accidents involving innocent road users.

As a result, the Corps Marshal instructed the Lagos State Sector Commander to begin legal proceedings against the individual involved for reckless driving, distracted driving and using a mobile phone while driving, as provided by law.

The FRSC warned that being famous does not place anyone above the law and that careless actions on the road can have deadly consequences.

“This incident, which could have resulted in loss of lives, serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” the statement read.

The statement also noted that public roads should not be treated as filming locations, stressing that such conduct works against national efforts to reduce road accidents and deaths.

The Corps Marshal appealed to entertainment bodies, influencer groups and content creators to caution their members and encourage safe behaviour on the roads.

“Celebrities and influencers wield enormous influence, especially among young Nigerians, and must be seen as ambassadors of safety, not symbols of recklessness,” he said.

The FRSC further warned that it would strictly enforce the law against anyone found driving recklessly or carelessly, regardless of their social status.

“No social media content, online trend or momentary clout is worth a human life,” the statement added.

KanyiDaily recalls that Jarvis recently broke down in tears and questioned why people were blaming her for Peller’s car accident.
