According to Premium Times, the suspects identified as Modu Gana and Ibrahim Dugge, were arrested by officers of the State Security Services (SSS).
A security source familiar with the operation said the arrests took place in the Apapa area of Lagos at about 8:45 a.m. on Sunday.
The source added that both men are currently being held for questioning.
The report said the arrests were based on intelligence suggesting that the suspects had escaped from Nigeria’s conflict-hit North-east and relocated to Lagos.
When contacted for comments, an SSS media officer said the incident had not been officially reported to the unit.
Since the reassignment of its former spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the agency has kept a low media profile, explaining that this approach supports its intelligence work.
As of the time of filing this report, it was not clear why the suspects were in Lagos.
There was no evidence to suggest they were planning an attack in the city. However, analysts note that ISWAP has been trying to extend its activities beyond the North-east.
KanyiDaily recalls that a senior Nigerian Army officer, Brigadier General M. Uba, was recently killed by the ISWAP.
