AFCON: Peter Obi, Reno Omokri, Others React As Nigeria Losses To Morocco

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and former presidential aide Reno Omokri have praised the Super Eagles for their performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite Nigeria’s semi-final loss to Morocco.

The Super Eagles were eliminated after losing 4–2 on penalties to the host nation, following a goalless draw in regulation and extra time on Wednesday.

Peter Obi took to X on Thursday to commend the players for their determination and urged them to stay focused ahead of the third-place match.

He wrote, “Dearest gallant Super Eagles, it was a battle well fought, and heads were not bowed.

“Thank you for a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play. You showed your strength and prowess against all odds.

“The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud. Keep your heads high, the Eagle never stops soaring. There is another stage, let’s go get that medal. You have done well.”

Reno Omokri also praised the team on X, saying they deserved recognition for their effort against a strong host side.

He added that the context of the match made their performance even more impressive.

“It was not for want of trying that the Super Eagles lost to Morocco. I am super proud of their effort today, as all Nigerians should be. Great teamwork.

“It is worth stating that they played against a home squad that has never lost a home game in sixteen years. Yet, with all that pressure, they still gave it their best measure. Well done, Super Eagles!” he said.

Nigeria will take on Egypt in the third-place match on Saturday at 5 p.m., while Senegal, who beat Egypt 1–0 in the other semi-final, will face Morocco in Sunday’s final.

Meanwhile, many Nigerians have shared their reactions on social media following the Super Eagles’ semi-final exit.

KanyiDaily recalls that Abdul Samad Rabiu, the chairman of BUA Group, said he will still give $500,000 to Super Eagles, even after their loss to Morocco in the AFCON semi-final.
