Court Grants Bauchi Finance Commissioner ₦100m Bail Over Alleged $9.7m Terrorism Financing

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a ₦100 million bail for the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu.

Adamu was granted bail on Wednesday alongside three other defendants facing charges linked to the alleged financing of terrorism involving $9.7 million.

In his ruling, Justice Mohammed Umar said the defendants presented enough material to justify the court’s decision to grant bail, adding that the discretion was exercised properly and fairly.

The court ordered each defendant to provide two sureties who must  be a permanent secretary and a director in the civil service.

The judge also directed the defendants to submit their international passports to the court.

In addition, Adamu and his co-accused were instructed to report every Monday to the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Bauchi State until the case is concluded.

The judge adjourned the matter to February 26 for the trial to begin.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Adamu alongside Balarabe Ilelah, Aminu Bose, and Kabiru Mohammed on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism financing and money laundering.

All four are senior civil servants in Bauchi State.

KanyiDaily recalls that the defendants were initially denied bail in December by Justice Emeka Nwite, who was sitting as a vacation judge at the time.
