Nigerian music star Davido has lost a $50,000 bet, estimated at about ₦72 million, after the Super Eagles were knocked out by Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ahead of the game, the singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on X, showing he staked $50,000 on Nigeria to beat the host nation, with both teams expected to score.
He also wrote that Nigeria would reach the final and that he planned to double his stake if the bet went through.
“Nigeria to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip,” Davido wrote.
The semi-final, played on Wednesday night at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, finished goalless after regular time and extra time, before Morocco won 4–2 on penalties.
If the bet had been successful, Davido would have earned more than $348,000, which is over ₦500 million at current exchange rates.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has applauded the Super Eagles for their strong effort and fighting spirit at the AFCON, even though their journey ended in the semi-finals.
