Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has criticised fans of singer Wizkid for their constant and disrespectful use of his late father’s name in music arguments.

In a video shared on Instagram, Seun addressed Wizkid’s fan base, known as Wizkid FC, warning them to stop dragging Fela Anikulapo-Kuti into music debates.
He accused them of deliberately provoking him and showing little understanding of his father’s legacy.
“Keep Fela’s name out of your (Wizkid FC) mouths. Why must you find a way to bring Fela always into your discussions?” he said.
Seun questioned why his father’s name repeatedly comes up whenever fans argue online, saying attempts to label any modern artiste as “the new Fela” only reveal ignorance about what Fela truly represented.
“You try to steal the man. You try to claim that this your artiste is the new Fela. Then, when you people saw that you couldn’t wear those pants, that the shoes were too big to fill, you now turn around.
“If your lack of respect came from a place of defiance, I would respect it. But your lack of respect comes from a place of ignorance. Complete ignorance,” he said.
The singer also blamed toxic fan behaviour for creating unnecessary tension in the music industry.
He urged fans to focus on enjoying music instead of constantly stirring conflict and rivalry.
Seun argued that fans who cannot appreciate an artiste’s work without comparing it to others may be doing so because the music itself does not fully satisfy them.
“You know why you cannot enjoy your artiste’s music without comparing it to something else? Because the music does not fulfill your spirits. That’s why you people look for extra drama always around the art,” he said.
He said truly powerful art should inspire thought and peace, not endless online fights.
Reflecting on past clashes with Wizkid’s supporters, Seun said he had stood his ground before and would continue to do so.
He stressed that his father’s name should not be used as ammunition in fan wars.
He also noted that Fela’s legacy is not something to be debated, pointing out that his family has always supported other artistes and the broader music scene through platforms like Felabration.
Seun added that fans should leave his father out of modern music rivalries, saying the Afrobeat pioneer deserves respect and should be allowed to rest.
