The Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area, Bala Useni, confirmed the incident, saying the fire broke out shortly after he left the secretariat for an official assignment.
Useni explained that he was informed about the fire by a security officer attached to the Taraba State Security Marshal.
He said early attempts to stop the fire failed because the Federal University Wukari Fire Service could not respond effectively due to a shortage of water.
The fire was later brought under control with the help of council workers and other concerned people who joined efforts to contain the situation.
According to the chairman, most of the administrative offices were affected by the fire, while only part of his office was not damaged.
Useni said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been identified, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine what led to the incident.
He added that the damage has disrupted normal administrative work and affected service delivery in the local government.
The chairman also disclosed that a committee would be set up to assess the level of destruction and help establish the cause of the fire.
No injuries or loss of life were reported.
