Rivers High Court Halts Impeachment Process Against Fubara And Deputy

A High Court in Rivers State has halted the ongoing impeachment move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Nma-Odu.

The court issued an interim order stopping any further action connected to the impeachment process.

The ruling restrains the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, along with 32 other parties, from taking steps to push the process forward.

Those affected by the order include the Clerk of the House and the Chief Judge of Rivers State.

The court specifically barred the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, from receiving or acting on any impeachment-related request or resolution from the Assembly, including setting up an investigative panel.

The injunction will remain in force for seven days.

Justice Florence Fiberesima granted the order after hearing separate ex parte applications filed by the governor and his deputy.

In the two cases before the court, the judge also approved substituted service on the defendants.

This allows court papers to be served on the first to the thirty-first defendants by posting them at the entrance of the Rivers State Assembly quarters.

The court further directed that the Chief Judge be served through any staff member at his office within the court complex.

Justice Fiberesima adjourned the case to January 23, 2026, when the court will hear the motion on notice, as the dispute over the impeachment now moves fully into the legal arena.

This comes after Rivers Assembly asked the state’s Chief Judge to begin impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
