Tinubu Appoints Olugbemisola Odusote As First Female DG Of Nigerian Law School

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School (NLS).

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Olugbemisola Odusote’s tenure is scheduled to begin on January 10, 2026, and will run for four years.

As Director-General, Odusote will be responsible for the institution’s overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses,” Onanuga said.

“She will also serve as the primary liaison between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.”

Odusote, who is 57, will take over from Isa Chiroma, whose term ends on January 9, 2026, after serving eight years.

She is currently the Deputy Director-General and heads the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School.

With this appointment, she will become the first woman to lead the institution since it was founded in 1962.

Olugbemisola Odusote earned her law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the bar in 1988.

She later obtained a master’s degree from the same university, focusing on company and commercial law, and went on to earn a doctorate in law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where she researched public law and the administration of justice.

Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School as a lecturer in 2001 and has held several senior positions over the years, including head of department, director of academics, and campus head.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu also sent two letters to the Senate, seeking confirmation of 21 people he nominated to serve on the boards of the NMDPRA and the NUPRC.
