Court Adjourns Anthony Joshua’s Drivers Trial To March 17

The Magistrate Court 1 in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the accident that claimed the lives of two close associates of former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

The court presided over by Magistrate Olufumilayo Somefun adjourned the case to March 17, 2026.

Somefun approved the new date to give the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who recently took over the matter, more time to prepare for the hearing.

This is the second adjournment granted for that reason.

Mobolaji is facing several charges, including dangerous driving resulting in death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without proper care that led to injuries and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Lexus SUV reportedly crashed into a stationary truck, and Anthony Joshua and the driver survived with minor injuries.

However, Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives in the incident.

Mobolaji was first arraigned before the Sagamu Magistrate Court on January 2.

Following the crash, Joshua was treated and later discharged from the hospital after doctors confirmed he was fit to continue his recovery at home.

He and his mother later visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their last respects as the bodies of Ayodele and Ghami were being prepared for repatriation to the United Kingdom.

The remains of both men were flown to the UK, where funeral prayers were held on January 4, 2026, at the London Central Mosque.

Ayodele and Ghami were key members of Joshua’s team, and their deaths deeply affected the global boxing community.

KanyiDaily recalls that Anthony Joshua lost his two friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025.
