Speaking during a worship service, Nathaniel Bassey said the man walked up to his car, knocked on it, and began performing some form of incantation, allegedly attempting to influence and command him to “do something.”
“I just stood there and laughed,” Bassey recounted, explaining that he responded by quoting Bible verses about God’s protection.
He quoted the verse that says, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm,” as part of his response.
The gospel singer added that the man remained there, apparently expecting the supposed spell to work.
However, Bassey said he relied on another scripture, “There is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel,” to show his belief that the attempt would fail.
Nathaniel Bassey said he eventually stepped out of his car and firmly told the man to leave immediately.
Reflecting on the encounter, he said he wished he had held him there until the police arrived because it was not the first time he had seen the man.
Bassey stressed that he shared the story not to draw attention to evil but to underline what he sees as the reality of spiritual battles and the strength of faith.
The gospel singer maintained that while he does not glorify wrongdoing, he believes such forces exist, and that faith offers protection.
He said: “I don’t know how we knew, but this was the second time that this same guy, the ‘juju man,’ was coming.
“One time on the express road, he came and knocked. He was casting an enchantment, hoping that it would influence me. He was commanding me to do something, but I just stood there and laughed.
“I said, didn’t they tell you that as they went from one kingdom to another, He suffered no man to do them wrong; He rebuked kings for their sake, saying, ‘Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm’?
“I just regretted that I should have kept him there for the police. While he was there, he was waiting for the spell to work on me. But Numbers 23:23 says there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.
“I came out of my car and ordered him to get out of here, you dirty devil, quick. I’m not saying this to boast, but while we do not glorify the devil, there is wickedness in the world.”
KanyiDaily had reported how Nathaniel Bassey reacted to the allegations that he fathered the child of his colleague, Mercy Chinwo, with her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa.
