AIG Tunji Disu sets Up Committee On State Police Implementation

The Inspector-General Of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu has set up a seven-member committee to supervise plans for introducing state police across Nigeria.

The committee, inaugurated on Wednesday, will be headed by Olu Ogunsakin, a professor of police studies.

During the event, Disu, who was recently appointed IGP, directed the team to come up with a clear plan for how state police forces would be created and managed.

He asked them to examine key areas such as recruitment, training, funding, and the systems that would ensure proper supervision and accountability.

According to the IGP, decentralising the police structure would allow state governments and local authorities to handle security issues more effectively within their areas.

The move aligns with earlier assurances by President Bola Tinubu that his administration intends to establish state police as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in the country.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Tinubu recently called on the Senate to begin the process of amending the constitution to allow states to establish their own police forces.
