Actress Funke Adesiyan Withdraws From House Of Reps Race In Oyo

Nollywood actress Funke Adesiyan has withdrawn from the race to represent the Ibadan South-East/North-East federal constituency in the House of Representatives.

In a statement shared on her Instagram page on Saturday, Funke Adesiyan explained that the decision came after careful thought and consultations with top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party she planned to run under.

The actress said she took a step back after reviewing the political situation and choosing to focus on service rather than personal ambition.

“Following certain reflections and high-level consultations, I have taken the decision to withdraw my aspiration for the House of Representatives seat representing IBADAN SOUTH EAST/ NORTH EAST FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY,” the statement reads.

“This decision is personal, deliberate, and guided by a clear assessment of the broader political landscape, as well as my commitment to long-term value, credibility and purposeful service.

“I remain fully appreciative of the confidence reposed in me across different levels and the encouragement received from supporters and stakeholders within and beyond our constituency.

“At this time, I consider it more important to step back with clarity and focus, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our people through other strategic avenues.

“I remain committed to the advancement of Oyo state and our country, Nigeria.”

Funke Adesiyan’s decision comes shortly after the APC released its timetable for the 2027 elections, with House of Representatives primaries expected to take place on May 15.

Aside from politics, Adesiyan has a background in the arts and law. She studied Performing Arts, earned a Diploma in Law from Olabisi Onabanjo University, and also trained in filmmaking at the New York Film Academy.

She is known for her roles in films such as ‘Eti Keta’ and ‘Obirin Ale’.

Over the years, she has also been involved in politics, serving as the southwest coordinator for Ibrahim Shekarau’s 2011 presidential campaign and later working as a personal assistant on domestic and social events to former first lady Aisha Buhari in 2019.

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2019, actress Tonto Dikeh vowed to beat Funke Adesiyan after exchanging heated social media rants over recent attacks on her ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill.
