The ADC made this known in a post shared on X on Monday by Kola Ologbodiyan, who revealed that with less than 24 hours left before the event, it was still struggling to secure a venue despite reaching out to the necessary authorities.
He explained that the party had earlier sent a letter to the office of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike requesting permission to use Eagle Square.
Although the letter was received and acknowledged, the party said it did not get any formal reply.
Ologbodiyan also said the ADC contacted officials at the Ministry of Sports Development to request use of the velodrome inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, but that request was also turned down.
He went on to allege that a number of privately owned event centres in Abuja also refused to host the convention because they were worried about possible consequences from the government.
In spite of the setbacks, the party maintained that the convention would still take place in the Federal Capital Territory as earlier planned.
A letter dated April 7 and signed by Chinedu Idigo showed that the ADC had officially applied to use Eagle Square for what it described as a non-elective convention.
In the letter, Idigo said the gathering was expected to bring together delegates, party stakeholders, and observers from all 36 states and the FCT.
He added that Eagle Square was chosen because of its large capacity, easy access, and strong security setup.
“I assure you that all necessary protocols will be strictly adhered to, including compliance with security guidelines, facility management rules, and restoration of the venue to its original condition after use,” the letter reads.
Idigo further stated that the party was prepared to pay all fees and meet every financial requirement attached to the use of the venue.
However, the request was rejected, with no reason given for the decision.
Following the development, the ADC announced that the convention would now hold at Rainbow Event Center in Abuja, which it described as a convenient and easy-to-reach alternative for attendees travelling from different parts of the country.
KanyiDaily recalls that David Mark-led ADC recently asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore the party’s leadership details removed from its online records.
