Basketmouth’s Estranged Wife Threatens To Sue People Accusing Her Of Paternity Fraud

Elsie Okpocha, the estranged wife of Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, has warned bloggers and social media users to stop spreading claims that paternity fraud was the reason her marriage ended.

The issue started last month after a blog alleged that Basketmouth said in an interview that a DNA test proved their first child was not his biological son, and that this led to their separation.

Reacting to the story, Elsie strongly denied the allegation, warning that people could make up stories about her if they wanted, but her children should never be dragged into such rumours.

In a legal notice dated April 10, 2026, which she shared on her Instagram page, Elsie Okpocha again made it clear that her marriage did not break down because of any paternity fraud.

Basketmouth’s ex-wife explained that although she initially wanted to ignore the rumour, she decided to respond because of the possible effect it could have on her child.

According to her, the false narrative could mislead the public and also expose her son to online bullying and emotional harm.

She described the reports as false, baseless, and deliberately harmful, accusing those behind them of trying to cause serious pain to her family.

Elsie warned that anyone who continues to publish, repost, or support the claim risks facing legal action for defamation and invasion of privacy.

According to her, spreading the allegation further could amount to criminal defamation, emotional distress, and violation of her family’s privacy, which may lead to both civil and criminal consequences under Nigerian law.

“It is pertinent to state that our client would not have bothered to dignify the said false and unfounded publications making the rounds on the social media space with a response but she is worried that some innocent and unsuspecting members of the public may take such false publications as the true state of things in the marriage between her and her estranged husband, and begin to bully their son on and off social media spaces with the consequential psychological trauma that will be inflicted on him, hence this intervention,” the letter reads in part.

“The deliberate spread of such falsehood is not only morally reprehensible, but it is also actionable under applicable defamation and criminal laws across Nigeria.

“In the circumstances, please TAKE NOTICE that the continued publication, sharing, or endorsement of the false publications amounts to criminal defamation of character, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and an invasion of the privacy of our client and her family, an action which exposes all the parties involved, whether as originators or distributors of the mendacious publications to serious civil and/or penal actions at the instance of our client.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Elsie Okpocha previously expressed her frustration on social media, hinting that Basketmouth might be influencing their child against her.
