Nigerian media personality Roby Ekpo has reacted to the cease-and-desist notice sent by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, over comments he made about her.

"I Can Defend Myself In Court" - Roby Ekpo Rejects Mayowa Lambe’s N100m Demand

KanyiDaily recalls that Mayowa Lambe demanded that Roby Ekpo withdraw his statements within 48 hours and pay N100 million in damages, following his appearance on “The Honest Bunch” podcast where he spoke about their troubled marriage and made several claims against her.

In his response, Roby, through his lawyers at Tap Legal Services, issued a counter-notice rejecting the allegations.

His counsel, Mbasekei Obono, stated that Roby’s comments were based on his personal experiences and understanding of events, and not intended to harm Mayowa’s reputation.

He said: “Your letter is noted; however, it is replete with assertions that are themselves disputed and will be rigorously challenged. At no time did he (Roby) act with malice or with the intent to injure your client’s reputation.

“Any statements made by him, whether privately or on public platforms, were based on his personal experiences, understanding of events, and matters he reasonably believes to be true. At no time did he act with malice or with the intent to injure your client’s reputation.

“The issues referenced arise from a complex interpersonal relationship, the facts of which cannot be selectively presented to construct a misleading narrative against our client.

“Contrary to your claims, our client also possesses documentary and testimonial evidence that directly contradicts several assertions in your letter. These include communications, records of interactions, and other materials which will be presented at the appropriate time and forum.”

The lawyer also described the demand for N100 million as unreasonable and premature.

He criticized the 48-hour deadline, saying it does not follow proper legal procedures, especially in a case involving conflicting accounts.

Your demands, particularly the request for ₦100,000,000.00 in damages, are viewed as excessive, unfounded, and premature,” he said, describing the deadline given by Lambe’s team as “unreasonable and inconsistent with established legal practice, especially in a matter of this nature involving disputed facts.”

He made it clear that Roby would not meet the demands as stated and is ready to defend himself in court if the matter goes legal.

According to him, Roby may also file counterclaims, including accusations of harassment, intimidation, and damage to his reputation if the case proceeds.

Take notice: Our Client will not accede to your demands as presently constituted. Our Client is prepared to join issues with your client before a court of competent jurisdiction, where all claims, counterclaims, and evidence will be properly examined.

“Should your client proceed with legal action, our client will robustly defend the suit and reserve the right to file appropriate counterclaims, including, but not limited to, claims for harassment, intimidation, and reputational harm arising from false or exaggerated accusations”, said Mr Ekpo’s lawyer.

Obono further suggested that Mayowa’s notice could be seen as indirectly confirming parts of Roby’s claims.

He advised that any further communication on the matter should go through legal representatives.

“He reserves the right to admit it in evidence in his petition to the appropriate US government authorities, including the United States Citizenship and immigration Services.

“Our client also reserves the right to seek declaratory and injunctive relief as may be necessary to protect his rights and interests.”

He added that the case could also be presented before relevant authorities in the United States, including immigration officials, if necessary.

The lawyer noted that Roby remains open to resolving the issue through proper legal channels but will not be forced into accepting blame or making concessions under pressure.

While our client remains open to lawful and structured resolution mechanisms, he will not be coerced into admissions or concessions under threat. Kindly govern yourselves accordingly,” he said.
