Mr Macaroni Tackles Nyesom Wike For Threatening To Shoot Seun Okinbaloye

Nigerian Comedian Mr Macaroni has criticised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for threatening Channels Television presenter Seun Okinbaloye.

The issue started after Wike reacted to Okinbaloye’s remarks on whether Nigeria could be sliding toward a one-party system.

The Channels TV  presenter had raised concerns about the ongoing crisis involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition from the party’s leadership due to a court ruling.

Okinbaloye warned that democracy works best when elections are competitive and involve strong opposition.

He said it would be dangerous for Nigeria if only one political party dominates the ballot ahead of the 2027 elections.

Responding during a media chat on Friday, Wike said he was shocked by the journalist’s comments and claimed that if there was a way to break through the television screen, he would have shot him.

The minister accused the presenter of taking sides in the ADC leadership crisis and said such comments were not the kind of journalism he was used to seeing.

Although Wike later said he was not making a literal threat, he insisted that he was deeply upset by the statement being made on national television.

Reacting to the controversy, Mr Macaroni condemned the minister’s words, saying it was disturbing for a serving public official to make such a statement about a Nigerian journalist during a live broadcast.

He argued that the comment reflects a worrying culture where some public office holders act without fear of consequences and begin to behave like tyrants.

Mr Maraconi wrote: “This is a so-called “serving” Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria saying in a live broadcast that he wished he could have shot and Killed a Nigerian Journalist. A country where public servants become tyrants because they know there is no consequence for impropriety.”
