Sanwo-Olu Endorses His Deputy Kadri Hamzat For 2027 Lagos Government Election

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endorsed his deputy, Kadri Hamzat, as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was made at Lagos House in Marina, where members of the state executive council, APC leaders, and all 57 local government and local council development area chairmen were present.

Sanwo-Olu said Hamzat is qualified to run for governor, pointing to his experience and deep understanding of the state’s affairs.

In recent weeks, Kadri Hamzat has been meeting with key figures in the party as part of his consultations ahead of the 2027 race.

On Sunday, the deputy governor held talks with Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Others at the meeting included Muti Are, secretary of the Governors’ Advisory Council; Senator Ganiyu Solomon; Bode Oyedele; Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; Adekunle Olayinka; and Hakeem Shittu, chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, among others.

Speaking during the meeting, Obanikoro said they were there to seek Gbajabiamila’s backing for Hamzat.

He described the deputy governor as someone with strong political experience in Lagos who needs the support of party leaders to succeed in the governorship race.

Hamzat, in his remarks, said Nigeria must continue to move forward and expressed confidence that the APC would win future elections at both the state and national levels.

He added that the party’s structure and leadership must be preserved, which informed his decision to consult with the chief of staff.

The deputy governor also stressed the need to sustain the economic progress achieved under President Tinubu, noting that choosing the right governorship candidate is key to maintaining stability in Lagos.

We discussed the direction of our state and the work required to move it forward,” the deputy governor wrote on his X account

It remains our shared responsibility to strengthen Lagos and continue delivering better outcomes for our people. I am focused and clear about the work ahead.”.
